Main Building Unter den Linden |
Founded in the year 1809/10, the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin is the oldest of Berlin's universities
and one of the leading research institutions with an international reputation.
During the guided tours through a building steeped in history, residing on Unter den Linden,
you will learn who first taught here, how many and which Nobel prize winners made their
researches at the Humboldt-Universität and where Albert Einstein held his lectures.
The main building of the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, which was originally intended to
serve as the royal residence to Friedrich II, looks back at an eventful history: built in the
late baroque period, this complex once lay in the heart of Prussia and Germany; from 1945 until
1989 in the capital of the German Democratic Republic (GDR) and now finds itself in the centre
of the capital of the reunified Germany.
